BEHOLD OUR OLYMPIC TORCH BEARERS: Funke Akindele Oloyede,Kanu Nwankwo, Banky W, and Steve Onu(YAW)

Ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games, Multi award winning and newly married actress Funke Akindele Oloyede and notable Nigerian celebrities have been chosen to join the rest of the world in the Olympic torch relay.

Joining the 2012 Zuma Awards and Nollywood movies best indigenous actress are celebrities such as Kanu Nwankwo (ex-Nigerian International footballer), Banky W (musician) and Steve ‘Yaw’ Onu (On Air Personality) as the Olympic torch bearers in Nigeria.
This is not the first time that the Olympic torch will be coming to Nigeria. In 2004 (Athens Olympic Games), when the Olympic torch came to Africa for the first time since its inception, late Pastor Bimbo Odukoya was chosen to be the bearer. Likewise in 2008 (Beijing Olympic Games), Eedris Abdulkareem was the first Nigerian artiste to bear the Olympic Torch.
The Torch symbolises peace and an embodiment of the Olympic Truce, which promotes the ideals of peace and conflict resolution and the premise that individuals, not countries, compete against each other in sports, in peaceful competition without the burden of politics, religion or racism.
The Olympic Torch and Relay history goes back to the ancient Olympic Games in Greece. The Torch and Relay were important elements of the cultural festivals surrounding the Olympic Games of Ancient Greece
